Hyderabad:Facts of the Case: On 29-05-2026, acting on credible information, the police team of Goshamahal Police Station conducted a raid at a house bearing H.No. 14-7-366, Narayan Bhavan, Begum Bazar, Hyderabad, and apprehended one Venugopal Sharma @ Idly Venu (59 years) for organizing illegal cricket betting activities.
During the raid, the accused was found actively operating betting activities through WhatsApp and other communication channels. Upon interrogation, he confessed to organizing cricket and racecourse betting under the name “Godavari Associates” along with his associates, and collecting betting amounts from punters through various intermediaries. He further admitted to deleting WhatsApp chats related to the betting activities in an attempt to destroy and conceal evidence. The accused is a habitual offender and was previously involved in multiple betting-related cases registered at Goshamahal and Charminar Police Stations. A case has been registered vide Cr.No. 193/2026, and the investigation is currently in progress.

A-1) Venu Gopal Sharma @ Idly Venu, S/o Late Madanmohan Sharma, Age: 59 Years, Occ: Betting Organizer, R/o H.No. 14-7-366, Narayan Bhavan, Begum Bazar, Hyderabad. (Sent to Judicial Remand).
Seized Items:
• One OnePlus Nord Mobile Phone (Mobile No: 9396445500, IMEI No: 865276041897158).
• Net cash of Rs. 3,000/-.
Public Appeal:
• Strict legal action will be initiated against all individuals involved in online betting, including players, organizers, and promoters.
• Parents are requested to closely monitor the online activities of their children and counsel them regarding the severe risks and legal consequences associated with gambling.
• The public is strongly advised not to participate in any form of betting or gambling activities and to immediately inform the police about any such illegal operations.
The apprehension was made under the supervision of Sri G Chandra Mohan, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Golconda Zone, and Sri K. Chandra Sekhar Reddy, ACP, Goshamahal Division, with the active assistance of the staff of Goshamahal Police Station.
